February 21st, 2010

Wedding centrepieces can give your wedding reception venue that ‘wow’ factor when thought and creativity go into them. Classic floral arrangements are what guests expect to see, so if you can come up with something a little less traditional you will make that all important great impression.

Wedding flower centerpieces are often chosen because flowers come in so many colors that you always find something to go with your color scheme. But try and stamp your personality on these decorations by going with something a bit different. You can still use flowers but try floating large heads with candles or anchoring single stems in glass vases with sweets, coffee beans or cherries.

Some form of lighting is a good idea for a wedding centrepiece. Done well, small lamps combined with flowers, leaves or edible favors can add to the romantic feel of the reception room. Tea lights or larger candles are another more traditional way to add romantic light to the occasion. Groups of candles in different heights perhaps stood on a mirrored tile can look amazing as can floating candles. Tall candelabras with thin candles can add vertical interest to the table and other tall wedding centerpieces are finding popularity.

There are many other natural materials that can be used in your centrepieces. Consider fruit, either whole stacked in pyramids, or sliced in vases of water. Avoid cut flowers by using potted plants instead and invite the guests to take them home as a memento when the reception is over. How about spray painting tree branches and adorning them with fairy lights, ribbons or chocolates?

Balloons are a fairly cheap idea for your centrepieces. They come in many colors and can add height to the table. Use odd numbers to allow for pyramid style arrangements and keep them high enough so as not to interfere with guests having conversations across the table. Make them more interesting by anchoring the ribbon with large bars of chocolate.

There are so many ideas for wedding centrepieces that once you start coming up with ideas, you will find that you can’t stop. Tie down your theme or color scheme before you start or the endless opportunities will be overwhelming.
