Which Style Kitchen Curtains?

March 19th, 2010

If you are looking for kitchen curtains, you may not be aware of all the different styles which are available. The main thing is that you match the style of curtains you choose with the style of the kitchen itself because not every style will be suitable for every kitchen. Here are some guidelines for getting the style just right.

1. Country Style Kitchens

With a country kitchen look at using simple gathered curtains made of cotton or lace for a warm and welcoming feel to your room. Kitchen curtains in lace give a slightly old fashioned feel to the room, gingham will give your kitchen a touch of retro and some cotton fabrics such as those adorned with farmyard animals will give your kitchen a whimsical feel.

2. Contemporary Kitchens

Ultra modern kitchens often dispense with curtains altogether and choose very structured blinds. However, it is not necessary to give up on the idea of curtains. Make the style simple, however, with plain panels and tab tops or use a simple large geometric design in the right color or two, match up your accessories and your curtains will look as if they are just right for your contemporary kitchen.

3. Classic Modern Kitchens

If your kitchen is fairly modern in nature without having the ultra contemporary sleek and shiny look, choose cheerful fabrics for your curtains. A bright plaid would look good or a lively multi-stripe. If you have chosen a fairly neutral color scheme, at least as far as your kitchen cabinets, flooring and wall tiles are concerned, add color with your curtains and liven up the whole room with matching accessories.

4. French Cafe Look

If you want to bring a touch of the Paris cafe scene to your home, think about using cafe curtains in your kitchen. They cover the lower half of your window only, providing privacy, yet letting in plenty of light through the upper part of the window. You can hang your curtains from a decorative pole and use tab tops or hide the curtain rod entirely with a casement heading.
