A room can look very bare without those little finishing touches which make a house into a home. You can have the best honey oak flooring, wonderful silk window curtains and smart cream sofas and it will just look like a plain room with all the charm of a dentist’s waiting room (and perhaps less depending on your dentist’s flair for interior design!)

The kind of things which add life to your room also add color and texture and if you are lucky they are functional as well as attractive.

A few cushions on your sofa add both comfort and color. A cashmere or mohair throw will do the same. As for your floor, consider adding a rug to bring your color scheme together, perhaps picking up the colors from your cushions or throw.

If your room is square, or, a least, more or less square and not obviously rectangular take a look at the many round rugs on the market for your rug. You will be amazed at the variety available whether you are looking for something contemporary or traditional and you will find them in every color you desire.

If your room has a modern flavor, look at rugs with one or two colors and large irregular patterns which are found in contemporary design stores and on the web. If your room is more traditional in character look at the many round rugs you will find in oriental style which have more subtle colors and often delicate fringing and also plain colors and small regular patterns in quality materials such as wool.

A round rug draws the eye and adds a focal point to your floor so don’t buy a cheap rug which will not add the quality finishing touch you need to make your room look its best. Spending a little more will make you delighted with your purchase in future too when cheaper rugs would be looking old and worn.
