Buzz on a Gluten Free Diet

February 10th, 2010

What’s all the buzz on having a gluten free diet? If you Google “gluten free diet”, you will get over 17,000 hits. But, what is gluten? And, why would you not want to eat gluten?

A gluten free diet is a hot topic these days. It’s been discussed on morning news shows recently, it appears in numerous magazine articles, there are gluten free cook books, gluten free goodies at the grocery store– like brownies, and there are claims of weight loss when you cut gluten from your diet.

Gluten is a protein that gives food a chewy texture, and acts as a binding agent. Think about your favorite pizza, and the crust! Or, think about bagels, cookies, cakes, and other favorites. Yummy! Well, believe it or not, you can actually make many of these treats without gluten. And, by the way, you will find gluten added to certain other food products, so if you want to avoid it, read the labels before buying.

Some typical reasons for starting a gluten free diet include losing weight, improving digestive function, improving overall diet and health, and treating more serious health problems, such as celiac disease. People who have celiac disease have difficulty digesting products made with gluten. Some people are actually allergic to wheat and other gluten products.

Gluten is typically contained in most flour products and grains, such as wheat flour, cereals, and white rice. A few that are considered to be gluten free are buckwheat flour, chickpea flour, and brown rice flour. Most experts consider oats to be gluten free, although there is some debate about it. Another popular gluten free grain is quinoa. Quinoa is high in protein, fiber, and other nutrients. Many other gluten free products are in fact, high in fiber and protein, making them a healthy food choice. This combination in food leaves you feeling fuller longer, improves digestion, and aids weight loss programs.

The best news is that finding products for a gluten free diet is easy. Your local grocery stores, health food stores, and book stores, all carry products and information for a gluten free diet. Some of the packages of gluten free flour have recipes on them, as well. You can even buy such things as gluten free cake mixes and gluten free pizza in a lot of stores. There are more options now for a gluten free diet than ever!

My K Cup Experience

February 3rd, 2010

Researching various coffee brewers and not being satisfied with my current coffee brewing method led me to purchase the Keurig K Cup Coffee Maker. Once I had received the machine and began purchasing K Cup Products, I discovered the K Cup Coffee Club online. Searching extensively online for any information regarding the K Cup Coffee Maker led me to the Coffee Club where I learned an amazing amount of detailed information available online about the brewer and the product accessories. Obviously I was completely won over by the coffee club page and all it had to offer me as a new Keurig Coffee Brewer owner and user.  Joining the club for free on the Keurig website provided a discount when I purchased my new Keurig coffee brewer online. This saved me a tremendous amount of money, helping me afford the machine and I also received a free coffee sample pack as well. There are several membership levels you can achieve to receive free or discounted products including the K Cup monthly email letter. The newsletter is a great source of information regarding new products as well as other coffee, tea, and hot chocolate related items. Once you are a member you are automatically entered into their system earning points with every purchase made. These points are then used to receive Keurig perks and discount products online.

There are two useful items that I have purchased since I have received my new coffee brewer. One is the K Cup Rack and the other is the My K Cup. The K Cup rack is perfect for storing and organizing your coffee, teas and hot chocolate products in a neat and orderly fashion. This organizer sits perfectly on top of your counter with out taking up to much space and it is fashionable as well. The My K Cup has been really useful over the Holidays.  Being that I have been given several pounds of coffee for gifts over the last few months, I have incorporated the My K Cup reusable filter into my daily coffee making experience.  I simply grind my own coffee of choice, pack it into the reusable filter and prepare it using the Keurig Brewer. This is one option that many other single cup coffee makers do not provide.

If you have not made up your mind to buy the Keurig Coffee Brewer before reading this article, I hope that this article has led you to the final decision to purchase one for your self. Take advantage of becoming a coffee club memberon various websites  and you will be given the K Cups coupons online while their specials are being offered. You too will be enjoying a delicious cup coffee every morning with the Keurig Coffee Brewer.

Choosing a 3 Tier Wedding Cake Stand

January 25th, 2010

The classic 3 tier wedding cake stand is a beautiful way to display an elegant wedding cake. Each layer of the cake is on a separate tier which turns an ordinary layer cake into a fabulous work of art.

3 tier cake stands are available in a wide range of sizes, styles and colors. While the most popular shape for the tiers themselves is round, you can also find square and oval plates. The cake plates are often separated by columns or pillars. Sometimes the layers gradually get smaller as the cake rises up to the top. The bottom layer of the cake sits on a flat base, or for a more dramatic look, this layer can also be elevated.

Some couples find a wedding cake stand that they love first and then have their cake designer design the cake to fit on the cake stand. Nevertheless, it is a good idea to have a general idea of what you would like your wedding cake to look like before you begin looking for your tiered cake stand.

In addition to the traditional 3 tiered cake stand, there are tower cake stands, cascading cake stands and floating cake stands. All of these have different methods for connecting the tiers. The tower cake stand has one column in the center to support the cake plates. The tower stand is becoming very popular as a way to display cupcakes at weddings. A floating cake stand connects the levels at the back, giving the illusion that the layers are floating with no support. You will probably see a lot of cascading wedding cake stands if you are doing any browsing online. These stands have the cake layers cascading for a very dramatic effect.

Besides planning a general design for your cake, it’s a good idea to have a budget in mind before you shop for your tiered cake stand. There are stands available from $20 up to hundreds of dollars depending on the finish and how intricate the design is.
