There are two main kinds of chandelier light fitting : those which are awash with crystals and tend to hang from the ceilings of ballrooms, stately homes and palaces and those we mortals have which are a bit less ornate (but equally beautiful) and which consist only of a light fitting with several “arms” with or without a few crystal droplets.
You usually need mini shades to fit the chandeliers we regular people have. The lights are generally supplied with plain white or cream shades but there is no harm in changing them for something a bit more decorative. If you look around you will see beaded chandelier lamp shades which are absolutely beautiful. They will give your light and your whole room a lift.
Some of these lamp shades are made entirely of glass beads wired together. These glass lamp shades catch the light perfectly and make your chandelier into a delicate work of art. Others are made of fabric, often silk, and are embroidered with beads or they have a bead trimming.
As these lamp shades can be quite expensive and you may need three, five or as many as nine, you may be wondering how to reduce the cost.
First of all, have a look online to see if you can get anything at a reasonable cost (taking into account all the shipping charges as well as the cost of the item). There are many such shades available there.
If you don’t find what you are looking for, think about buying plain fabric chandelier shades and embellishing them with beading. You can either stick the beads on using a glue gun or stitch them onto the fabric. For an easier life, you can also buy ready made motifs made of beading, beaded edging or fringing which you can glue in place very easily and transform your plain mini shades into something lovely.
