Using a Detox Center to Kick Cocaine

Do you really need a treatment center to get off of cocaine?  Well yes and no.  Let’s take a look at the facts for moment.

First of all, you never really need medical supervision for cocaine detox, as it is completely safe from a medical standpoint to simply stop using cocaine cold turkey.  This is not true of many drugs and you still may be very tired and fatigued when you quit cocaine, but there is no danger in terms of the withdrawal.  So as far as detox goes, you can just stop.  It is safe.

Now if there are other drugs involved, including possibly alcohol, then this may not be the case.  Quitting alcohol can be dangerous.  Coming off of pills of different types can be dangerous.  So if the person is abusing more than just cocaine, then they might, in fact, need a detox center of some sort.

Now the other side of the coin is that going to a drug rehab can still be of huge benefit to anyone who is struggling with cocaine addiction.  The reason for this is because this is a lifestyle drug, and the addict needs to learn a new way to live that does not involve them self medicating all the time with cocaine.  Residential treatment can help them with this, exposing them to group therapy, meetings, groups, lectures, and so on.  Anyone who goes through the residential process should be able to learn some things about how to live a clean and sober life.  And they meetings that they expose you to in rehab can serve as the foundation for recovery when you leave rehab.

So is rehab necessary for cocaine withdrawal?  Not really.  But it can still help a great deal in terms of the therapy and help that you can receive there.  So keep an open mind to the idea and consider the trip to rehab in order to help yourself with your addiction.
